Borne, Jeff VanderMeer

VanderMeer is an incredibly imaginative writer, and I picked this one up after reading Annihilation. I liked Borne even better than Annihilation, I think for the most part due to VanderMeer’s portrayals of Mord and Borne — futuristic creatures created by “The Company.”

Borne takes place in a postapocalyptic world, and the undertones of environmental ruin and genetic engineering make this book an even stronger and more captivating read. I’m interested to see if VanderMeer continues Rachel’s (or Borne’s) story, or if this one gets picked up for a big-screen adaptation.
