As of 2019, I plan to use this site (previously only a portfolio for my published works) to post reviews of books I’m reading. My favorite genres include horror, literary fiction, and memoirs. I read 100+ books annually and want to start a conversation with others who love and appreciate literature as much as I do.
I graduated from Northeastern University after seven semesters in December 2016, obtaining a degree in English with a minor in linguistics while staying on course to begin a career in the publishing industry. The professional opportunities afforded me in college broadened my worldview and led to the pursuit of international opportunities in Sydney, Australia and a full-time post-grad position at a company with whose work I am very excited to be involved.
This online portfolio is a compilation of all of my published works for ebook service BookBub, Northeastern University’s independent student newspaper, The Huntington News, and Columbia Gas of Virginia‘s employee intranet. Notable work for relevant college courses is also included.
According to its website, “BookBub is a free service that helps millions of readers discover books they’ll love while providing publishers and authors with a way to drive sales and find new fans.”
I wrote for The Huntington News for over three years, beginning September 2012. I served as news correspondent, copy editor, deputy arts & entertainment (A&E) editor, A&E editor, A&E columnist, and finally managing editor. As one of five section editors, I was responsible for pitching and writing stories, communicating with writers and contacts, page layouts, and online publication. As managing editor, I oversaw budgeting and finances, layout, page approval, and final publication in partnership with the editor-in-chief.
For four months in the summer of 2013, I worked as the sole communications intern for Columbia Gas of Virginia, a subset of NiSource Gas Distribution, which serves seven states on the east coast. I was one of a three-person communications team working out of the Chester office. My responsibilities included maintaining the company’s various social media platforms, taking notes and updating employees on a number of issues and committees focused primarily around the Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) council, and writing updates to be published on the CGV intranet, MySource. I also organized, directed, and edited a set of videos for Employee Energy Efficiency Week that featured several of the company’s most prominent figures.
