In promotion of Taylor Swift’s most recent album, “1989,” the pop princess released videos of tracks “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space,” the record’s first two singles. Today, Swift followed up with the release of the album’s third single video, “Style.” While the track is one of the album’s best, the video, directed by Kyle Newman, leaves something to be desired.
From Lennon to Welles, Hemingway to Rooney, struggling artists of decades past all had one thing in common: they had to get their writing careers started somewhere. And in this particular case, they all started at the keys of a classic typewriter — typewriters that are temporarily on display at the Gallery 360 in the Curry Student Center.
If it’s lunchtime and there’s a clear lack of students and faculty on campus, it’s a safe bet that they’re all standing in the sandwich or grill line at Rebecca’s Café. The meal-swipe-friendly eatery in the basement of Churchill Hall won Best Dining Hall on campus this year, with almost half the votes. Students seem to like it for its plethora of sandwiches such as Turkey and Apple and grill items like the delicious chicken tenders, that often come with a side and drink and are easy to pick up between classes or for lunch outside.
Students at Northeastern held hands, huddled around televisions and fought back tears when the news of the explosions at the marathon finish line broke Monday afternoon. Work was put aside, celebrations ended abruptly and prior commitments were cancelled or forgotten as the community came together to try and understand why this happened.
With its dive bar atmosphere, plethora of Northeastern students and people sporting sweatshirts and gym clothes, it’s safe to say that almost anyone can feel comfortable at Conor Larkin’s, which once again snagged the title of Best Campus Bar. The Irish-American pub and grill offers about 20 beers on tap and large portions of food – like the much-loved buffalo chicken nachos – for college-student-approved prices, and brunch on the weekends. Northeastern students who frequent the bar agree that everyone knows each other there, and that the bar has a great feel.
On any college campus, pizza is an absolute staple. With its five pizzerias, along with options at all the dining halls, one thing is clear: Northeastern loves pizza. So this year, Best Pizza was added as a category on the Best of NU, and the honor – given to Il Mondo pizza – is a big one. Il Mondo is just a short walk from campus down Huntington Avenue past the MFA. There are many students who have never ventured to the restaurant, but those who have are hooked.
A free concert Saturday night at afterHOURS allowed a sold out house of students to escape the St. Paddy’s Day partying for a few hours. Indie groups The Antlers and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper got fans swaying and tapping their feet along with the music. The performance also allowed Northeastern’s own singer/songwriter Mark Gilday, Jr. to try his hand on the stage, delighting the audience with his energy and enthusiasm.
